Mariah Carey ushered in the start of the festive season with an elaborate holiday announcement video.

For the past five years, the diva has marked the start of November with a social media clip declaring “it’s time” for the Christmas season to begin, with this year’s video her most elaborate to date.

It sees the Hero singer dressed as Morticia Addams from ‘The Addams Family’ as she meets her husband Gomez and perform the couple’s signature tango, after which she pushes him away, throws a dagger and opens a cabinet containing a red and white Santa jumpsuit.

The film then cuts to Mariah sitting in a sleigh and singing “it’s time” in her whistle register, as Gomez turns into a snowman and her 1994 holiday classic All I Want For Christmas Is You plays.

Speaking in a new interview with The New York Times, the Always Be My Baby star reflected on the progression of her holiday videos, sharing: “[At first,] it wasn’t even really like an announcement.

“People would say, ‘Hey, when is it OK to put our lights up and put our tree up?’ and ‘When do you do it?’ People would just ask me that because I guess they thought I was very Christmassy. [Now,] I love ‘It’s time’. It’s so fun.”

This year marks 30 years since Mariah released her first holiday album, ‘Merry Christmas’ (1994), with the singer marking the milestone by reissuing the LP across formats, along with its iconic lead single.

As part of the celebrations, the Without You hitmaker is heading out on tour across the US, with dates throughout November and December this year.

The Queen of Christmas will play 20 cities across the US as she rings in the festive season with what’s billed as her “grandest holiday spectacle to date”.

The tour coincides with her ‘Celebration Of Mimi’ residency at Las Vegas’ Dolby Live at Park MGM.
