Mariah Carey has confirmed work on her much-anticipated 16th studio album is done.
The diva launched the project earlier this summer with lead single, Type Dangerous, which rocketed to the top of the US iTunes Singles Chart upon its release.
In a new interview with Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden at the new Apple Music Studios during a live broadcast celebrating the steamer’s 10th anniversary, the Touch My Body singer opened up about the project.
“I’m trying not to tell too much about the new album. ‘It’s a special occasion/ Mimi’s emancipation’ — that’s a lyric from one of my songs.
“What is next? The album coming out. I don’t wanna tell too much about it because I just don’t want to reveal the whole thing. It’s finished.”
She did, however, confirm the album has 11 or 12 songs, including some “Mariah ballads”, sharing: “A second single is coming soon.
“I’m very excited about it. It’s very summery. I like the beat as well.”
Type Dangerous became Mariah’s first single to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 in over a decade, since her 2017 standalone track, I Don’t (feat. YG), and comes from her first studio LP since 2018 release, ‘Caution’.
