Mariah Carey’s seminal 2005 album The Emancipation of Mimi is coming to vinyl with a 2LP reissue slated for release in August.
News of the release leaked via Russian website vinyloteka.ru, with a listing for the record confirming Universal Music will be reissuing the album on vinyl on August 28th.
The Emancipation of Mimi was a major comeback for Mariah, whose career had stalled following the release of the 2001 soundtrack album, Glitter, and its follow-up, Charmbracelet – both of which failed to live up to her previous successes.
Led by the R&B classic It’s Like That, The Emancipation of Mimi’s biggest hit came from the record-breaking We Belong Together, which gave Mariah her 16th US Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single and was named “song of the decade” by Billboard.
Seven singles were released in total, including Shake It Off, Get Your Number, Say Somethin’, and Mariah’s 17th No. 1, Don’t Forget About Us, which featured on the Ultra Platinum Edition of the record.
The re-release of The Emancipation of Mimi comes amid the singer’s #MC30 celebrations, marking 30 years since the release of her self-titled debut album.
Beginning in July, Mariah has been releasing digital EPs, remixes, bonus cuts, rare tracks, acapella renditions and live performances from throughout her career.
According to a press statement, the music releases will be accompanied by video footage, photos, physical releases and personal notes from the singer.
