Madonna attracted a crowd of over 1.6 million fans in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday (May 4) night as she performed the final date of her ‘Celebration World Tour’.
The Queen of Pop put on a free show on Brazil’s famous Copacabana beach, marking the last date of her epic 40th anniversary run.
“Rio, here we are in the most beautiful place in the world,” she declared at the top of the show, which drew the largest ever crowd for a standalone concert for any artist, according to Live Nation.
Throughout the show, Madonna performed a selection of her biggest hits, including Nothing Really Matters, Like A Prayer, Hung Up and Vogue, and was joined by Brazilian singer Anitta during one segment.
Giant screens were positioned along the beach to ensure the crowd was able to see the event unfold, which is estimated to earn the local economy around 293 million reals (£46m).
Madonna’s website said it was the biggest show she has ever done, with attendance more than 10 times the 130,000 she played to in Paris, France in 1987.
