Madonna has shared a statement on social media following her hospitalisation last month.
Updating fans on her condition after spending a weekend in the ICU owing to a bacterial infection, the Queen of Pop took to Instagram with a new selfie and penned: “Thank you for your positive energy, Prayers and words of healing and encouragement.
“I have felt your love. I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.
“My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour.
“I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.
“My focus now is my health and getting stronger and I assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can!
“The current plan is to reschedule the North American leg of the tour and to begin in October in Europe.
“I couldn’t be more grateful for your care and support. Love, M.”
The Ray of Light singer had been due to kick off the tour at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC on July 15, but in a statement shared last month her talent manager, Guy Oseary, revealed her health setback and suggested some of the shows had been put on hold.
“On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU,” he said. “Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.
“At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”
Set to take in 43 cities with shows across North America and Europe, the ‘Celebration Tour’ is produced by Live Nation and, according to a press release, will take fans on Madonna’s artistic journey through four decades and pay respect to the city of New York where her career in music began.
“I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for,” she said when announcing the shows, which was set to run through October in North America, before hitting Europe with a string of dates – including six stops at the O2, London.
Madonna was then set to return to the US in December for another run of live dates into the New Year. Bob the Drag Queen a.k.a. Caldwell Tidicue will guest across all dates on the global tour.
Updated dates for Madonna’s ‘Celebration Tour’ have yet to be announced.
