Madonna declared “Italians do it better” after the country’s national football team beat England to victory in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday.
The Queen of Pop donned a black sports T-shirt for a series of snaps of herself and her family getting ready for the big match, along with a clip of herself cheering on the teams ahead of the game.
After Italy scored their winning penalty against England, following a 1-1 result, she shared an old photo of herself wearing the slogan shirt on her Instagram stories.
The Open Your Heart singer, whose father is of Italian descent, captioned the photo with three football and three Italian flag emojis.
She wasn’t the only musical star to enjoy the game; Girls Aloud star Cheryl thrilled fans by sharing a vintage snap of the five-piece holding an England flag with three lion emojis.
And it was a journey for Gabrielle, who began the night hoping that “Dreams Can Come True #ItsComingHome,” but conceded the title was “Out Of Reach” for England.
Boy George began the evening in high spirits, writing “Let’s have it,” while Duran Duran shared a snap of bass player John Taylor prior to the match with the message, “Coming home!”
Following the game, stars shared their congratulations to Italy, with Take That’s Howard Donald sharing: “It is what it is! The England team and their manager should be so proud to even take Italy to penalties. No penalty taker should take the blame for having one saved. Possibly the most nerve racking thing to have to do.
“Well done @England Well done Italy.”
Blue singer Duncan James added: “Well done Italy! U played a blinder. Totally gutted for our lads. England we must be so proud of our journey and our achievement. Roll on the world cup next year.”
Italy won with a 3-2 victory when the game went to penalties, after both teams finished 1-1 after extra time.
