Madonna has spoken in defence of her Mother Of Creation NFT collection
The charity collection comprises three 3D videos, including one of her avatar giving birth to insects, butterflies and trees, produced in collaboration with digital artist Beeple.
According to a press release, the collection was a “labour of love,” but fans have criticised the move on social media, prompting the Queen of Pop to tackle the backlash.
Speaking with Beeple, real name Mike Winkelmann, she acknowledged people had been “weirded out” by the clips but insisted: “I’m doing what women have been doing since the beginning of time, which is giving birth.
“But on a more existential level, I’m giving birth to art and creativity and we would be lost without both.”
She added: “I think it’s really important that a lot of thought and conversation went into creating these videos.”
The videos are titled Mother Of Nature, Mother Of Evolution, and Mother Of Technology, with Madonna previously saying: “When Mike and I decided to collaborate on this project a year ago, I was excited to have the opportunity to share my vision of the world as a mother and an artist with Mike’s own unique point of view.
“It’s been an amazing journey building this together from an intellectual idea to an emotional story, giving birth to art.
“I wanted to investigate the concept of creation, not only the way a child enters the world through a woman’s vagina, but also the way an artist gives birth to creativity.
“Most importantly we wanted to use this opportunity to benefit mothers and children who are most in need right now.”
It comes as Madonna prepares to celebrate her 50 US Dance Club Songs Chart No. 1 hits with the new ‘Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones’ remix collection.
The 50-track collection includes her favourite remixes of her dance hits, spanning her entire four-decade career.
Each remix has been newly remastered by Mike Dean, who produced Madonna’s two most-recent studio albums, ‘Rebel Heart’ and ‘Madame X’.
In addition to the bumper set, an abridged 16-track LP, simply titled ‘Finally Enough Love’, will also be issued.
‘Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones’ will be available digitally on August 19, along with 3CD version limited 6LP red and black vinyl editions.
Meanwhile, ‘Finally Enough Love’ will be available to stream on June 24, with CD and 2LP versions out August 19. All versions are available to pre-order now.
