Madonna will direct and co-write her forthcoming biopic.
The movie, which the Queen of Pop has teased may be named after her classic hit Live to Tell, will chronicle Madonna’s rise from unknown New York dancer to chart-topper.
“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” the star said in a statement.
“The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive.”
She added: “There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”
The Hung Up hitmaker has teamed with screenwriter Diablo Cody on a film about her life and career and has been heavily involved with the curation of the forthcoming project.
Madonna’s production partner on the biopic, Amy Pascal, added: “This movie is an absolute labour of love for me. I have known Madonna since we made A League of Their Own together, and I can’t imagine anything more thrilling than collaborating with her and Diablo on bringing her true-life story to the big screen with Donna and our partners at Universal.”
The Like A Prayer star has been teasing the project on social media and has posted a series of videos to her Instagram of her and Diablo working on the movie.
