Lou Hayter is finally set to drop her solo debut album ‘Private Sunshine’ this month.
The singer shot to fame in the mid ’00s as a member of electronic pop group New Young Pony Club (NYPC), but broke away from the band in pursuit of a solo career, with singles including Cherry on Top in 2018 and 2020’s My Baby Just Cares for Me.
And on May 28, she will release ‘Private Sunshine’, also featuring the tracks Private Sunshine, the Steely Dan cover Time out of Mind, and Telephone.
Speaking about the latter – her latest release from the LP – Lou says: “I started making pop tunes in hip hop kind of way by sampling and looping and then it opened up a whole new world of making music for me.
“Telephone is one of the first ones I made like this. I love the vibe it has, it’s a nice laid back summery tune. The sax solo was the cherry on top.”
The album takes strong influences from the ’80s, with the star citing Madonna and The Human League among her main inspirations.
‘Private Sunshine’ is available digitally on May 28. A vinyl edition is due for release July 23.
