A live performance from ABBA not seen in five decades is set to air on the BBC this spring.
Coinciding with the band’s 50th anniversary, the broadcaster is lining up a series of special programming, including ‘More ABBA At The BBC’ – which includes the ‘lost’ footage.
The performance in question, of So Long on ‘Top Of The Pops’ – hasn’t been broadcast since 1974.
Also set to air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer is ‘When ABBA Came to Britain’, celebrating Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad’s success in the country following their ‘74 Eurovision Song Contest win in Brighton with Waterloo.
BBC One will also premiere the feature documentary ‘ABBA: Against The Odds’, produced by Rogan Productions and directed by James Rogan, documenting the band’s most transformative years and rise to global fame.
Meanwhile, Radio 2 launches a vote to discover the listeners’ Ultimate ABBA Song, while BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds present ‘Eras: ABBA’ – a brand new series dedicated to the band – along with ‘Sophie Ellis-Bextor: ABBA, My Supergroup’.
In addition to the 50th anniversary of ABBA’s Eurovision win, the programming coincides with the Contest’s return to Sweden following Loreen’s historic win in Liverpool last May.
