Live Nation’s Drive-In summer concert series has been cancelled as the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect the UK.

The promoter was due to host the special events at open-air venues across Britan in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis, but on Wednesday announced the shows had been called off due to the ongoing health threat.

In a statement, they said: “The Live From The Drive In concert series will no longer proceed as planned this summer.

“We received huge support from artists, the live music production contractors, our headline sponsor Utilita along with our other partners, and of course you, the fans.

“However the latest developments regarding localised lockdowns mean it has become impossible for us to continue with the series with any confidence,” Live Nation continued.

Gary Numan, Marc Almond, Tony Hadley, Hue and Cry, and Bjorn Again were among the stars due to take part in the concerts.

The Whitney Houston and Tina Turner tribute shows, Whitney – Queen of The Night, and What’s Love Got To Do With It?, had also been booked for shows.

In a press release, Live Nation promoter Peter Taylor previously announced: “We are excited to bring Utilita Live From The Drive-In to fans across the UK.

“This outdoor concert series was created as a way to reimagine the live music experience during a time of social distancing by allowing fans to enjoy concerts in the safest way possible.

“Each event will comply with all official Government guidelines in order to protect fans, artists, crews and staff. We look forward to announcing some of the biggest names across U.K. music and bringing these fantastic artists to a city near you.”
