Burt Bacharach, the songwriter and performer who scored more than 50 UK Top 40 hits, has died.
The US musician composed more than 500 songs during his career, including classics like I Say A Little Prayer, Walk On By and Do You Know The Way To San Jose, with his works performed by artists including Dionne Warwick, Tom Jones and Dusty Springfield.
According to his publicist, the musician died of natural causes on Wednesday, February 8 aged 94 at his home in Los Angeles.
Working extensively with lyricist Hal David – who died in 2012 aged 91 – throughout his career, Bacharach was a six-time Grammy Award winner and won three Oscars for his music in films ‘Arthur’ and ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’.
He also soundtracked the Michael Caine film ‘Alfie’ and ‘What’s New Pussycat’, with The Beatles, Elvis Presley and The Carpenters among those who had success with his songs.
