Singer-songwriter LAKY has finally released her debut single Saving Me.
The track, featuring a stripped instrumental, arrives ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week and offers an insight into the star’s own mental health struggles, which she says have been a constant battle throughout her life.
However, the singer, real name Kyla Stroud, was determined the track would come from a place of optimism.
“There’s a comfort for me and I hope, listeners, in knowing we’re not alone,” she tells Times Local News. “It’s not a song about fixing a problem, it’s a song about hope and being kind to yourself.
“For me, the words Saving Me aren’t even about a place or another person, they’re directed back at me.
“As much as I can beat myself up because I’ve taken another dip, I remind myself I am strong, I can get through this time and things will be better.”
Although the track is LAKY’s debut single, it’s not her first musical release; as a songwriter, she’s penned a handful of tracks for The Fizz, starring her mum Cheryl Baker.
Among the fan-favourite tunes are 2017 single Amen, holiday ditty So Christmas and her most recent Fizz track Storm, as featured on the group’s 2020 album ‘Smoke & Mirrors’.
