Kylie Minogue has named Margot Robbie as her ideal pick to play her in a biopic.
The pop icon is gearing up for a busy end to 2023 with the release of her 16th album, ‘Tension’, and launch of her Las Vegas residency, but should the offer of a big screen feature land on her table, Kylie already knows who to call.
Speaking to E! Online, she named the ‘Barbie’ star and said: “Margot Robbie in my dreams. She’d have the Australian accent down, that’s for sure.”
As yet, a Kylie Minogue biopic has not been announced.
The All The Lovers hitmaker recently announced her first exclusive residency at the Voltaire nightclub at The Venetian in Sin City, with shows slated to run from November 2023 through January 2024.
“I’ve performed a couple of times at Vegas, but as part of a tour, and particularly when I did the ‘Showgirl’ tour in 2004 – at that time we said, ‘Oh, this feels like a Vegas show,” said Kylie at a Los Angeles news conference (via BBC).
Years later, her ‘Aphrodite’ tour had “so many waterworks in like precision fountains,” she continued. “My team at the time kept saying, ‘Why isn’t this in Vegas? We’ve got to do it at some point.”
“I was thinking years ago I want to do it when I’m younger like, I don’t want to do it when I’m at the sunset of my career,” she smiled of the show, which will feature tracks from her forthcoming album, ‘Tension’, alongside hits such as Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, Spinning Around and Slow.
Kylie will launch her Las Vegas show at the Voltaire nightclub at The Venetian on November 4.
Ahead of the launch, Kylie will release ‘Tension’ – featuring the global hit Padam Padam – of which she says: “I started this album with an open mind and a blank page. Unlike my last two albums there wasn’t a ‘theme’, it was about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment and always trying to service the song.
“I wanted to celebrate each song’s individuality and to dive into that freedom. I would say it’s a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high.”
For the LP, the pop icon has worked with a number of producers, with seven of the tracks being produced and co-written with her long-time collaborators, Biff Stannard and Duck Blackwell.
Discussing the recording process, Kylie adds: “I loved being back in the studio with my collaborators but was also able to benefit from remote recording, which we have all got used to – my mobile studio never left my side for a year and a half!
“The album is a mix of songs I have written and songs which really spoke to me. Making this album helped me navigate challenging times and celebrate the now. I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story.”
