Kelly Clarkson opened the latest instalment of her hit US daytime talk show with a rousing cover of George Michael’s classic hit Faith.
‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ host began the programme with a ‘Kellyoke’ segment, in which she played a cover version requested by her audience.
“We’re going to kick things off in a different way with a Kellyoke special, because I literally showed up today…I was like ‘I can’t sing today,’” she explained.
“I went to sleep at like 3 a.m. and I’m very tired. We knew this would happen before once or twice because mama’s got some jobs and children, so we kind of recorded a few Kellyokes in case this day arrived, and it did.”
The segment has seen Kelly cover several classic hits and she’s set to record a new version of country classic 9 to 5 with Dolly Parton herself.
Set to appear in the upcoming documentary Still Working 9 to 5, which “examines the 40-year evolution of gender inequality and discrimination in the workplace”.
“We could do a documentary just on the making of the duet,” director Gary Lane told Variety of the collaboration.
Meanwhile, co-director/producer Camille Hardman explained: “The first iteration, Dolly’s original version was very upbeat. There was a lot of hope I would say in the song.
“And this version is just a little bit melancholic,” she said, with Lane adding: “Kelly — you can’t believe how she changes it, too. It’s really mind blowing.”
