Jennifer Lopez is going behind the camera to develop a series of original projects based on classic musicals.
The multi-hyphenate and her Nuyorican Productions partners, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina – who is also her manager – have signed with Skydance Television for the venture, which includes reimagining the works of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein.
The pair were responsible for hits including ‘Oklahoma!’, ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘Carousel’, ‘The King and I’ and ‘South Pacific’, and J.Lo is looking forward to introducing the shows to a new audience.
“Musicals were a part of the tapestry of my childhood,” she says in a press release.
“We’re so excited to begin our association with Skydance and Concord in reinterpreting some of the most classic musicals and bringing them to life in new ways for a new generation.”

A modern-day retelling of ‘Oklahoma!’, in the form of a TV series, is already in the works at the company.
It comes weeks after Jennifer announced she has signed a first-look deal with Netflix to develop films, TV series and unscripted content, with a focus on projects that support diverse female actors, writers and filmmakers.
Jennifer recently returned with Cambia El Paso, her first single of 2021 featuring rising star Rauw Alejandro.
And there’s more on the way, with J.Lo revealing she’s been in the studio every week for “the past few months”.
