Released: March 18
Howard Jones’ classic remix LP is newly-remastered for its first double-disc CD release.
Originally issued on vinyl between ‘Human’s Lib’ and ‘Dream Into Action’ in 1984, ‘The 12” Album’ was Jones’ first collection of 12” mixes and was a commercial hit, peaking in the Top 20 of the UK charts.
It features new edits of tracks from the star’s chart-topping debut alongside the new single Like to Get to Know You Well, which later appeared as a bonus track on its follow-up.
Remastered from the original master tapes, the new release includes ‘The 12” Album’ in full, alongside its sequel, ‘12”ers Vol 2’, housing additional reworkings from across his first two LPs, which was previously released only in Japan and South Korea.
While musically there’s nothing new here, the package satisfies; the audio has been cleaned up and tracklist amended, replacing the original mispressing of the 7” mix of Bounce RIght Back with the full extended version.
Housed in an attractive fold-out digipak case, the release comes complete with new sleevenotes by Stephen W Tayler – who mixed the tracks on ‘The 12” Album’ and ‘12”ers Vol 2’ – and Glenn Kelly, plus rare imagery of the singer from his chart-topping years in the early ‘80s.
For casual listeners, the lack of new material may be off-putting, but for longtime fans looking to complete their collection, it’s a neat package worth checking out.
‘The 12” Album + 12”Ers Vol. 2’ is available on 2CD.
