Hot Chip have joined forces with Malaysian-Irish producer and singer Yunè Pinku on their new single, Fire Of Mercy.
Marking their first release since their most recent LP, ‘Freakout/Release’, last year, the track is the band’s first new music of 2023.
Joe Goddard says: “Fire Of Mercy relates to the central concept of William Blake’s Songs Of Experience – it bemoans the corruption that inevitably comes from adulthood and longs for a return to the purity of childhood.”
Yunè Pinku adds: “Massive honour to work with Hot Chip as they’re huge legends within the electronic world. When they played me Fire Of Mercy and asked me to jump on the track, I was thrilled to work with them.”

Last year, Joe opened up about the group’s plethora of influences and, twenty years into the band’s career, told RETROPOP how new generations of listeners are more open to discovering artists’ back catalogues.
“I’ve seen that kind of process happening for so long now,” he mused. “Thirty years ago, it was much more normal to dress in a certain way and just be into a certain kind of music.
“And you’ve just seen people open their horizons continually since then until it’s become normal for people to be aware of all of this different music and be allowed to like it. Which is clearly a really, really good thing.”
