Harry Styles explores a range of influences on ‘Harry’s House’ – his most confident and creatively accomplished offering yet.
From soft-rock ballad Sign of the Times from his self-titled debut, to sun-soaked global chart topper Watermelon Sugar from follow-up ‘Fine Line’, the former boyband star has established himself as a frontline player in the industry over the past five years.
Through his live shows, he’s proven a master showman, turning his hand to different genres with ease, with the help of famous friends and fans, from Stevie Nicks and Shania Twain to Lizzo. And on Harry’s ‘House’ – his third LP and first in three years – he leans into a broad range of influences that showcase his skill as a singer-songwriter, while embracing his personal tastes.
Kicking off with a falsetto belt, opener Music For A Sushi Restaurant flourishes with a slick bassline and swagger that grabs attention and celebrates his long-awaited return.
Channelling ‘80s pop is Late Night Talking which, alongside lead track As It Was, is an instant highlight from the set that’s sure to become a radio hit in the coming months.
Elsewhere on the set, Daylight presents itself as another contemporary, commercial offering, while the funky Cinema and storming Daydream are reminiscent of Bowie’s work with Nile Rodgers.
As an album, ‘Harry’s House’ feels like a triumph and, whereas ‘Fine Line’ proved his solo success was far more than a fluke, its successor is a defiant statement that Harry Styles remains one of the most exciting artists on the music scene today.
