Gwen Stefani’s back to her best on her latest single.
After years of Christmas music and country duets with fiancé Blake Shelton, the No Doubt frontwoman throws it back to the band’s iconic Rock Steady sound on Let Me Reintroduce Myself.
The tune reads as a defiant message that, despite her recent releases, she’s still the same Gwen who crafted massive hits like What You Waiting For?, The Sweet Escape and Wind It Up.
Among the self-referential lyrics is a nod to her massive 2005 hit Hollaback Girl, with the star singing in the first verse: “Homegrown ingredients, that’s what made you mess with me / In the first place, ’cause you know I’m like organic / And it tastes great, I already gave you bananas.”
While it’s yet to be confirmed whether a fifth solo album is to follow, Gwen tells Zane Lowe on Apple Music: “I have probably 20 songs. And I never expected to be writing, but it was in there. And it’s been really, really incredible. I mean, there’s just nothing else that I do in my life, and I have done so many things, that makes me feel ignited the way a new song makes me feel.”
She goes on to tease two new song titles – Cry Happy and When Loving Gets Old. Two other tracks – You Kissed Me Back to Life and Sooner – have been registered on American music database BMI.
