Gwen Stefani shares a day in the life of the pop star in a new behind the scenes clip from her Slow Clap video shoot.
The singer has released two clips for the track – a promo featuring Saweetie for their remix of the tune, and the original concept, directed by Matty Peacock, featuring the No Doubt star as a guardian angel to a school kid who’s trying to win over his peers.
In the new fly on the wall footage, Gwen documents the shoot from start to finish, including the opening scene which sees her ride up to the school on a Vespa.
“First shot of the day was really easy. I got to ride a Vespa, which is so cool!” gushes Gwen. “Got to meet my co-actor on the shoot, Kevin. And yeah, we’re just going to school, trying to be inspirational to him, get him all hyped up for his big dance scene.”
“I’m not really the main character – I’m sort of the supporting role – which has been kind of interesting and fun,” she explains. “At the end of the day, it came together really easily.”
Later in the feature, Gwen admits it was Matty who came up with the concept for the visual, revealing “I really didn’t see the song in the same way as he saw it, which was interesting because I obviously sing it from my perspective and I wrote the song about me.
“But when you take it outside of yourself and look at the song from this little boy’s point of view, it’s like… we all go through this. And it will continue even out of high school. It continues for your whole life.
“At the end of the day, it’s just about climbing the mountain, and then looking back down and going, ‘Yes, I’m up here again’.”
Gwen returned to the charts in December with Let Me Reintroduce Myself – the lead track from her upcoming fifth solo LP.
