Eurovision icons Blue, The Fizz, and Scooch reunited virtually to watch new Netflix movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.

The movie tells the story of aspiring Icelandic musicians Lars (Will Ferrell) and Sigrit (Rachel McAdams), who are given the opportunity of a lifetime to represent their country at the world’s biggest song competition.

Also starring Pierce Brosnan and Dan Stevens, the film’s a hilarious musical romp – and Blue star Simon Webb couldn’t help but poke fun at the group’s performance in the contest.

When bandmate Lee Ryan asked him, “How come we didn’t get a shot to be in this movie?”, Simon quipped: “Because we got beat by Jedward.”

It’s true – Blue finished in 11th place with I Can in 2011, while former X Factor stars Jedward landed in 8th position (but, let’s face it, 11/42 is pretty impressive for the UK nowadays).

It wasn’t always so bad for Britain, though, and one group who knows all about that, The Fizz – formerly Bucks Fizz – took a trip down memory lane as they watched along.

“We had the police escorting us didn’t we,” Cheryl Baker recalled.

The group won the contest in 1981 with their classic hit Making Your Mind Up.

As with Lee, Mike Nolan was also baffled as to why he, Cheryl, and Jay Aston weren’t asked to participate in the movie.

“They may make a part two and we might do that one,” he mused, as Cheryl told him, “Well, we’re in the promo…”

However, it hadn’t quite clicked with Mike just why he was filming himself watching the movie, asking: “Are we?”

“Yeah, that’s what we’re doing,” Jay laughed.

While Scooch star David Ducasse also suspected he must have missed the memo to be in the film, for Russ Spencer, there were more pressing issues on his mind.

“Even Pierce (Brosnan) looks happy,” he joked.
