Duran Duran have come out on top of this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fan ballot.
The group, who are first-time nominees, racked up 934,000 votes – 250,000 more than the second highest artist on the rundown, Eminem, with 684,000.
The rapper finished just 50,000 votes ahead of Pat Benatar, who totalled 631,000, while Eurythmics and Dolly Parton finished in fourth and fifth place with 442,000 and 394,000 votes, respectively.
Other acts that have been nominated this year include Beck, Lionel Richie, Rage Against The Machine, A Tribe Called Quest, Carly Simon, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, New York Dolls, Dionne Warwick, MC5 and DEVO.
Alongside the vote, a collective of more than 1,000 artists, industry members and historians will decide which five acts progress into the final round of induction.
Meanwhile, Dolly Parton has confirmed she’ll accept the honour of being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame if she is voted in.
The country icon previously insisted didn’t feel that she had “earned the right” to be recognised by the institution, saying in a statement: “I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”
However, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has not removed her name from the ballot and, in a new interview, Dolly revealed that, if she’s voted in, she will accept the accolade.
The 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees will be announced in May, with an induction ceremony slated for October.
