Duran Duran have teamed up with rockers CHAI for their new single More Joy.
The track is the second to be lifted from the group’s forthcoming 15th studio album ‘Future Past’ and sees the ‘80s group partner with the Japanese band for their latest collaboration.
According to keyboard player Nick Rhodes, the song was initially born out of a jam session between themselves, Blur’s Graham Coxon and producer Erol Alkan.
“It was such an unusual piece, we weren’t quite sure if it would fit in at first,” he said. “It reminded me of one of those retro Japanese video games, which I always found quite uplifting.
“We came up with the chant ‘more joy’ early on, and that became the key to the rest of the track.”
Nick revealed it was singer Simon Le Bon who suggested bringing in CHAI to perform on the song, who admitted, “[Their] energy and pure sense of fun might actually blow your ears off.
“We are honoured to have them sprinkle their pink neon magic spikey dust onto our song.”
In their own statement, CHAI added: “When Duran Duran asked us to join their new song, we listened to it and thought, ‘This is lively, rock, cool and fun’, and we danced.
“We are full of joy!”
More Joy is the second single to be lifted from ‘Future Past’, after lead track Invisible, which was released digitally in May.
The album features 12 new tracks and appearances from the likes of Blur’s Graham Coxon and long-time David Bowie pianist Mike Garson, and guest vocals from Lykke Li.
Three bonus songs are included with the deluxe edition of the record, which is due October 22 and available to pre-order now on various formats.
