D:Ream will release their new album, ‘Do It Anyway’ – the duo’s first in four years – this summer.
Due July 25, the LP is preceded by its title song, out now, and dates back 30 years, when singer Peter Cunnah pitched the track to Kylie Minogue.
Although the Hand On Your Heart singer passed on the backing track, Peter’s bandmate, Al Mackenzie, discovered it and put lyrics to the tune.
“It’s got that connotation of getting involved in partying,” says Peter. “In the ‘90s we didn’t know what these drugs were, we didn’t know how safe they were or not.
“But we were anarchic in that regard, and we were just up for feeling, for that moment, for that party. And that’s reflecting back on that.”
Al adds: “It’s a great lead single because that whole ‘90s club thing is where Pete and I met, got our act together and formed D:Ream. We never want to wallow in the past but it was nice to bring that feeling back saying: would you have changed it? No! We’re very stubborn!”
Recorded at Peter’s studio in Donegal, the wider album channels the essence of ‘90s D:Ream while incorporating various contemporary elements that represent the pair’s sound and style today.
‘Do It Anyway’ is out July 25 and available to pre-order from from Amazon, HMV, Rough Trade, Townsend and more.
