Melanie C has been “super inspired” by her recent DJ sets while working on her new solo album.
The Spice Girls singer is working on the follow-up to her latest, self-titled solo LP, released in 2020, and speaking on ‘The Rebecca Judd Show’ on Apple Music 1, she admitted she’s keen to experiment with different genres of music.
“I’m a pop artist, but I love my dance music,” she said. “I love so many genres of music, but right now DJing, I’m super inspired by that and I really want to bring my work as a DJ and my solo work as an artist a bit closer together.”
Noting that her gigs behind the decks are incredibly “technical”, the Who I Am hitmaker confessed she feels more nervous DjJng than singing live, sharing: “There are so many things that can go wrong and I’m still learning.
“I think with everything, you always continue to learn, but I feel so experienced as a singer in that sense, going out with a band and I’m in a different head space so if something goes wrong, I can kind of have a bit of a laugh about it.
“But if something goes wrong on the decks, I’m like, ‘Help! Loop Loop!'”
Previewing her new project, the singer-songwriter revealed she’s been collaborating with a number of up-and-coming artists, teasing: “I’ve been working with some female artists, Rose Gray, who’s a new artist who’s brilliant.
“We worked together with Uffie, who’s great. It’s so lovely to get more women on the record.”
