Depeche Mode appear to be teasing the lead single from their forthcoming 15th album ‘Memento Mori’.
Last year, Dave Gahan and Martin Gore announced their latest project is due in the spring of this year – and with a cryptic countdown published on their website, it appears to be on the way.
“Time is fleeting, see what it brings,” they penned in the caption to an instagram post, which started at seven days and is ticking down to 5 pm GMT next Friday, February 3.
Due March 17 via Columbia and Mute, ‘Memento Mori‘ is Depeche Mode’s first album in six years, since 2017’s ‘Spirit’.
It’s also their first LP since the death of founding member Andy Fletcher, who passed away in May at the age of 60.
Speaking about ‘Memento Mori’, Martin Gore commented: “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time.
“After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.”
Dave Gahan added: “Fletch would have loved this album. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you live at the shows next year.”
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020 inductees with begin their ‘Memento Mori’ World Tour with a special, limited series of North American arena dates starting March 23rd, before the band heads to Europe for their summer stadium tour.
