Super producer Dave Audé returns with his first full-length studio album ‘Motions’.
Having worked behind the scenes on productions and remixes for the biggest names in pop music for the past 25 years, this month he teams up with a vibrant array of industry legends and fresh talent on a largely original collection of collaborations.
Allowing the musician the opportunity to shine as a songwriter – a courtesy rarely afforded after remixing became his forte and saw him called upon to work on tracks for a host of famous faces – he returns to his DIY roots, penning and producing the majority of ‘Motions’
A rare exception is the album’s opening cut, the LeAnn Rimes collaboration Uninvited – a dance take on Alanis Morissette’s 1998 single – with the combination of her powerful vocals and his slick production launching the set with a bang.
“It was such a joy to collaborate with Dave on one of the most epic songs ever,” she beams. “Dave and I have been working together for years, but this was the first time we joined forces to create a track from start to finish. He is a dear friend, a genius at his craft and a blast to create with. I love what we have created together!”
Having relocated from LA to Nashville while working on the album, the set also spotlights an array of rising talent, including queer breakthrough star Zee Machine on the title song, which made waves as an infectious summer anthem.
Elsewhere, Neon Moon with Cody Belew is a throwback production, within pulsing synths and layered harmonies, showcasing the singer’s clean vocals, while I Can’t Be with Nick Wayne is a brooding midtempo number that builds to a thundering crescendo.
Another track, I’m Ready, with Kinsley, is probably the most commercial pop tune on the LP and was co-written with a young Meghan Trainor. It finally makes its debut with the help of the rising star, who – as with the majority of new talent on ‘Motions’ – is building up to her big break.
As a collection, ‘Motions’ showcases a side to Dave rarely seen; known for his larger than life remix productions, this time he adopts a scaled-back approach that’s more commercial than club friendly.
In doing so, he not only demonstrates his versatility, but proves that as a writer and producer he’s ready and waiting to crossover from the dance charts and take the world by storm – all over again…
