Daft Punk have declined an offer to perform at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Artistic director of the Games, Thomas Jolly, recently teased an appearance from the electronic duo in an interview with France Inter, offering renewed hope of a reunion. 

“It would be very happy if they were in this ceremony. We can’t not think about it,” he told the publication.

“You can’t not think of Daft Punk when you think of a successful international showcase for a French group.”

Following the publication of the comments, however, Thomas took to X on Wednesday (October 25) to confirm that Daft Punk – who split in February 2021-  would not be appearing after all. 

“My comments were confusing and generated a lot of expectations,” he posted. “I must clarify: After discussing a possible presence at the ceremony, the group’s decision is not to participate. I respect this decision and apologise for the ambiguity of my comments.”

A representative for Daft Punk also confirmed to Pitchfork: “This is just a rumour and not true.”
