Coldplay are reportedly planning a 10-night residency at Wembley Stadium in support of their new album ‘Moon Music’.
The group’s new LP, featuring the single feelslikeimfallinginlove, is set to drop in October and according to sources close to the band, Chris Martin and co. are keen not to tour extensively behind the project in a bid to reduce their carbon footprint.
“Coldplay want to do something super special for ‘Moon Music‘ and they have discussed the idea of doing a set residency rather than touring across the UK,” they told The Sun’s Bizarre column.
“Wembley has been mooted as a possible location which would work for a 10-date residency, for example. It means they would be able to play to almost a million fans, all while keeping down their carbon footprint.
“On their last tour the band went all out to try to reduce the impact of their work on the environment. By keeping the shows in one place they are removing the need for HGVs to drive the stages and kit across the country, for example.”
They added: “Plus seeing acts like Adele setting up shop in one place has given them real food for thought. Nothing is set in stone yet but they hope they can get a residency to work.”
In line with their environmentally conscious ethos, ‘Moon Music‘ will be the first album to be released as a 140g EcoRecord LP, with each copy made from 9 recycled PET-plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste, resulting in an 85 per cent reduction in manufacturing process CO2 emissions/kg compared to traditional 140g vinyl.
Meanwhile, CD editions will be the world’s first to be released on EcoCD, created from 90% recycled polycarbonate, sourced from post-consumer waste streams and providing a minimum 78 per cent CO2/kg emission reduction.
