Three of Vanessa Williams’ classic albums have finally been made available on streaming platforms.
While the majority of the star’s discography has long been available online, including her debut, The Right Stuff, and her ’00s releases, much of her ’90s catalogue remained absent.
However, in a 2021 turnaround, her second, third and fifth albums – The Comfort Zone, The Sweetest Day and Next – have been made available on streaming sites.
The Comfort Zone, released in 1991 – three years after her debut – was nominated for five Grammys and features hits including Running Back to You, The Comfort Zone and Save the Best for Last.
It was followed by The Sweetest Day (’94) which, while not scoring the same chart success, earned the star a further two Grammy nods and includes Colors of the Wind – Williams’ Top 5 hit from the soundtrack to Pocahontas.
After a Christmas album – Star Bright – in 1996, Williams returned with Next the following year. While less successful that her previous releases, it was another strong effort, featuring singles Happiness, Who Were You Thinkin’ ‘Bout and First Thing on Your Mind.
It comes as the star continues work on her ninth album, which she teased in a 2018 interview with the Phoenix New Times.
When asked about future projects, she explained: “I have been in the studio… It’s kind of a combination of what I do in my show; I do pop tunes, I do R&B, I do stuff that I have recorded.
“I do some Broadway things, and this is a kind of extension of my Broadway music, and has inspired me through the years that I have performed.”
