Oscar, Emmy and Grammy Awardee and Kennedy Center Honors recipient Cher is to be honoured with the Spirit of Katharine Hepburn Award.
The prize is given annually by the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center to “an individual who embodies the bold spirit, fierce independence and distinctive character” of the Oscar-winning icon who died in 2003.
Cher will receive the award on October 3rd at the Center’s annual gala – which will be held virtually amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The theme of this year’s gala is Believe, in honour of Cher’s classic hit and Hepburn’s “positive belief in the future of the arts.”
In addition to her work in entertainment, Cher is also being recognised for her humanitarian efforts. She’s long cited Hepburn as one of her inspirations.
Among the stars who’ll be sending video messages congratulating Cher are past recipients of the award, including Dick Cavett, Glenn Close and Christine Baranski – her Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again co-star. She’ll also receive video tributes from Lucie Arnaz, Sheila E., Ed Asner, songwriter Jimmy Webb and music producer Peter Asher, plus her son Chaz Bono

The accolade comes weeks after Cher’s perfume, Cher Eau de Couture, won a top prize at the 2020 Fragrance Foundation Awards.
