Cher is hard at work on her 27th studio album.
The pop icon is currently recording the follow-up to 2018’s Dancing Queen, which featured 10 ABBA cover versions and earned Cher her highest debut sales week for an album in the US.
Since dropping the LP, she’s gone on to tour the world with her Here We Go Again show and, while she believes her voice is “as strong as ever,” the star admits her forthcoming record could be her last ever.
Speaking with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, the Believe singer explains: “My doctor was looking at my [vocal] cords and he pulled up some [scans of] cords and said, ‘These are your cords, and these are 25 and 27-year-old girl cords’.
“I’m just recording an album now and it’s very unnatural [for them to be in such good condition] – this might be my last album,” she notes. “I feel like Tony Bennett and Betty White. But it could be my last album.”
The revelation comes after Cher previously confirmed new music for 2021 – along with further movie projects and philanthropic work.
“I’m going to have some [new music],” she teased. “I’ve been doing a lot – I did the Bobbleheads movie, I did Scooby Doo…”
Cher’s last LP of original recordings, Closer To the Truth, came in 2013.
Meanwhile, she’s also been busy on her quest to free Kaavan – ‘the world’s loneliest elephant’ – after revealing fans on her Twitter page made her aware of his situation.
Taking to social media, Cher recently revealed she spent time with Kaavan and oversaw his journey to the Siem Reap International Airport, when he was transported to Cambodia.
In the clip, Cher can be seen serenading Kavaan with A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes from Cinderella, singing: “No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true.”
When she finished the song, Cher asked Kavaan: “Well what do you think? It wasn’t very good, I have to say, I did my best.”
