Charli XCX has been named as Songwriter of the Year ahead of the the 2025 BRIT Awards.
The 360 singer will receive the honour at The O2, London on Saturday, March 1 following the global success of her 2024 album, ‘BRAT’.
“Charli has had an undeniable year, taking her experimental brand of electronic and pop from underground raves to the heart of mainstream culture,” said Damian Christian, Chair of the BRIT Committee for 2025.
“Charli’s songwriting is distinctive, bold and relentlessly innovative, and, having been one of the UK’s leading songwriters for a number of years now, has taken her craft to new heights with her global phenomenon ‘BRAT’.
“I’m delighted she has been recognised for this much deserved award.”
The news comes after Charli’s collaborator, A.G. Cook, was revealed as the recipient of the Producer of the Year accolade, following in the footsteps of Chase and Status, who received the honour last year.
Responding to the accolade, Cook dedicated the award to his late collaborator, SOPHIE – who died in a tragic accident in 2021, at the age of 34 – saying the artist is “still a driving force for producers everywhere”.
“As someone who’s always felt like a bit of an outsider, I’m very flattered to be recognised by The BRITs,” he commented. “From the early PC Music days to the Charli mixtapes and beyond, I’ve been lucky to work on so much music that I truly believe in.
“In particular, I’d like to dedicate this moment to SOPHIE, whose vision and artistry is still a driving force for producers everywhere.”
In addition to his work for other artists, Cook released his first solo album not on PC Music – the label he founded in 2013 and helped popularise the hyperpop genre – last year, with the 24-song ‘Britpop’ project featuring Charli on its title track.
