Celine Dion’s older sister says the singer is “listening to the top researchers” following her recent diagnosis with Stiff-Person Syndrome (SPS).
The neurological disorder is an incurable condition which results in uncontrollable muscle spasms and has forced the Think Twice hitmaker to axe the remainder of her ‘Courage World Tour’.
In a recent interview with Le Journal de Montreal, Claudette Dion revealed her sister, Linda, has moved into Celine’s home, sharing: “When I call her and she’s busy, I speak to my sister Linda who lives with her and tells me that she’s working hard.
“She’s listening to the top researchers in the field of this rare disease as much as possible.”
The Imperfections singer went public with her diagnosis in December 2022 and later cancelled her live commitments in May of this year, with Claudette insisting her decision was the right one.
“[Celine] always goes above and beyond, she always tries to be the best and top of her game,” she added. “At one point, your heart and your body are trying to tell you something. It’s important to listen to it.”
Although there is no known cure for the rare ailment, there are treatments to slow down the progression of the illness and the vocal powerhouse is working with doctors in a bid to manage the effects and return to performing.
“I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again,” Celine previously said of the cancellations. “I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100 per cent.
“It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again.
“I want you all to know, I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”
A statement from her team continued: “We do have every hope that someday soon, Celine will be able to come to all of these cities in Europe to perform for her amazing fans, but that time simply is not now.”
