Celine Dion has experienced broken ribs amid her ongoing battle with stiff person syndrome.

The Taking Chances singer revealed her diagnosis with the rare neurological condition back in December 2022, having been forced to cancel her ‘Courage World Tour’ and planned Las Vegas residency.

Speaking in a new NBC documentary that is due to air on Tuesday (June 11), she opened up on the illness, which is causing her muscles to gradually harden, revealing it can cause spasms that are “abdominal, can be in the spine, can be in the ribs.”

Adding it effects everything from her singing abilities to being able to cook, Celine – who is reportedly planning to return to the stage for a TV special – said the syndrome had left her with “broken ribs at one point… Sometimes, when it’s very severe, it can break some ribs.”

The superstar recently opened up about her condition in a trailer for the new documentary ‘I Am: Celine Dion’, in which she is seen breaking down in tears as she discusses how much she misses performing live.

“I’m working hard every day, but I have to admit, it’s been a struggle,” she confesses in a clip from the Prime Video documentary. “I miss it so much. The people, I miss them.”

Sharing her determination to get back on stage, the I’m Alive singer says: “If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl. And I won’t stop. I won’t stop.”

Reflecting on the “magic” that happens when she performs live, she adds: “It’s not hard to do a show, you know. It’s hard to cancel a show.”

Directed by Academy Award nominee Irene Taylor, ‘I Am: Celine Dion‘ offers “a raw and honest behind-the-scenes look at the iconic superstar’s struggle with a life-altering illness,” according to a press release.

‘I Am: Celine Dion’ debuts June 25 on Prime Video.
