Busted’s new album will be the “best fucking album” of their career, the band promised fans after topping the charts with ‘Greatest Hits 2.0’.
The trio’s first compilation features re-recorded versions of their biggest hits from the past two decades and debuted at No. 1, becoming their first chart-topper.
Speaking to the crowd at Manchester’s AO Arena on Sunday (September 24), James Bourne said: “Even though we are celebrating our 20th anniversary, we were in a freezer for, like, 14 years.
“So, we’re still fresh and we are gonna make the best fucking album you’ve ever fucking heard. It’s gonna be our second No. 1 album!”
Addressing the concept of ‘Greatest Hits 2.0’, which also has a ‘Guest Features Edition’ that includes collaborations with McFly, Hanson, Jonas Brothers and more, Matt Willis added: “We decided, we’re gonna go away and make the greatest hits, we’re gonna re-record them because the idea of just re-releasing shit you’ve already bought? Fuck that!”
And he says it won’t be long before they’re back working on new material, teasing: “That’s what we’re doing straight after this fucking tour, we’re going back in the studio. You wanna hear a new record? Us too!”
Speaking to RETROPOP ahead of the release of their latest collection, the group shared their hopes that the record would top the charts, with Charlie Simpson joking: “It’s the only thing missing on my fucking shelf! We have four No. 1 singles but I want that gold trophy in the middle!”
Having recorded the new track Good One for ‘Greatest Hits 2.0’, Matt went on to share his anticipation for the band’s next era, admitting: “We’re always thinking about the music. Normally it takes that for us to press the button and the reason that this works is that we can re-record the songs with new people and it’s exciting. But moving forward, it will all be about new songs and that’s in the pipeline.
“The best thing about Busted now is that everything is us. Not that it wasn’t in the beginning, but we had a lot of other voices. Now, we listen to people because they know what they’re doing and they’re good at their jobs, but the buck stops with us.”
