Bucks Fizz heartthrob Mike Nolan recorded the group’s classic hit Now Those Days Are Gone in his pants – because the squeaking from his leather trousers was interfering with the microphone.
The group scored a UK top 10 hit with the classic track, taken from their second album, Are You Ready.
Speaking to Hayley Palmer on her Memory Lane 80s Show on Saturday, Jay Aston recalled turning up at the studio to record her vocals, only to find Mike in his pants as he put down his part.
“When he was recording that, they kept saying to him – because he used to wear leather a lot… they kept saying to him, ‘You know Mike, something’s squeaking on the mic, so can you take your jacket off?’ So he took his jacket off,” she recalled.
“(They said) ‘No there’s something else – can you take your belt off?’ So as I arrived there to do my vocals, there’s Mike in his underpants…
“So if you have that in your mind when you listen to that song,” she joked.
However, the track is a favourite for the From Here To Eternity singer, who added: “Now Those Days Are Gone gave us a bit of class I think, because it was a beautiful song.”
