Britney Spears is celebrating after scoring a legal win in her conservatorship battle.
In a second hearing on Wednesday, July 14, the pop star was granted permission to select her own legal counsel, following the departure of court-appointed attorney Sam Ingham.
Former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart will take over as Britney’s lawyer, and vowed to fight for the end of the conservatorship, and investigate whether it was appropriate to begin with.
Taking to social media, the jubilant singer celebrated the victory while thanking her “awesome” fans for their support.
“Coming along, folks … coming along,” she penned, alongside a snap of herself horseback riding and doing cartwheels.
“New with real representation today … I feel GRATITUDE and BLESSED.
“Thank you to my fans who are supporting me … You have no idea what it means to me be supported by such awesome fans.
“God bless you all.”
She added the hashtag “#FreeBritney” – seemingly the first time the Make Me star has vocalised her support for the movement in this way – while her boyfriend Sam Asghari commented: “Internet is about to explode #freebritney.”
According to New York Times reporter Liz Day, Britney addressed the court via phone and reiterated her wish to end the conservatorship and relinquish her dad Jamie’s control over her life.
Insisting the conservatorship “ruined [her] life,” Britney also claimed her driver’s license was taken away for a number of months and she’s been forbidden to drink coffee as part of the setup.
Last month, Judge Brenda Penny refused to shut down the conservatorship despite the Toxic star accusing the conservatorship team of drugging her, forcing her to work against her will and refusing to let her make romantic and reproductive choices.
Following Britney’s shocking claims, fans supporting the #FreeBritney movement and stars took to social media to lend their support.
