Charli XCX dominated the 2025 BRIT Awards by taking home four of the five prizes for which she was nominated.
The hitmaker – whose 2024 LP ‘BRAT’ was a global phenomenon with singles such as Apple, Von Dutch and Talk Talk – took home the accolades for Artist Of The Year, along with the Mastercard sponsored prizes for Album (‘BRAT’) and Single (Guess), during the ceremony at The O2, London on Saturday, March 1.
She also scooped the award for Dance Act and spoke of the importance of the genre while accepting the honour.
“I feel like dance music, electronic music, it gets a really bad rep because I feel like everybody’s like ‘Oh, well, it’s not really that deep is it?’ and I kind of feel like it is,” she said.
“I feel like this genre of music, for me, it’s euphoric. It allows me to escape. It allows me to feel on such a deep level. Maybe that’s not not the way for everyone, but for me, it is.”
Also taking home a pair of trophies was US star Chappell Roan, who received honours for International Artist Of The Year and International Song Of The Year (Good Luck, Babe!).
“I don’t believe in bad art, but let’s just say I had to write a lot of bad songs to get to the good ones,” she shared in her first acceptance video. “Artists deserve that freedom to write bad songs and to explore horrible concepts. … So we must continue to support these artists so they can find success on their own terms and have long careers.”
In the second, Roan said: “I dedicate this to trans artists, to drag queens, to fashion students, sex workers, and Sinéad O’Connor. Because all those people … have laid the groundwork for me to be here today. I did not give up because of them, and I will continue going because of them.”
The show – which opened with a performance by Sabrina Carpenter and saw Sugababes and Lenny Kravitz among the presenters – also included a tribute to Liam Payne, with host Jack Whitehall calling the late One Direction star “a very special person who meant so much to so many of the people in this room and to millions of you around the world”.
He added: “Last October, we woke to the devastating news that Liam Payne had tragically passed away. He achieved so much in the short time that he was on this Earth, and was not only a supremely gifted musician, but an incredibly kind soul who touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with.”
