Blue are plotting a return to music in 2021.
Singers Duncan James, Lee Ryan, Simon Webbe and Antony Costa last got together in 2015 for their fifth LP Colours, which landed in the UK Top 20 and produced singles King of the World and Nothing Like You.
Speaking to The Sun, Duncan, who is currently performing his Cabaret All Stars show at Proud Embankment, London, reveals the group is eager to get plans in motion to mark what will be their 20th anniversary.
“I’d like to think we’ll reform again,” he says. “We were wanting to do something for our 20th anniversary but at the moment lockdown has meant it’s been difficult to get together. It’s not been easy.
“There could be something in the pipeline as we’re really good mates.”
Sources go on to explain that, while all members of the band have all explored solo projects in recent years, they’re working collectively towards celebrating the upcoming milestone.
“While they’ve gone off and done individual things, Blue will always have a special place in all of the hearts of the members of the band,” an insider adds.
“They feel really proud that they have stood the test of time and many of their songs are still played on the radio now. Getting to a huge milestone like their 20th anniversary is not something that they could allow to pass by without celebration.
“They are really proud of what they have achieved.”
Of the group’s plans so far, they also tease: “Fans will have to wait and see whether they will release new music or not but with such a hit-packed back catalogue in their locker it’s not something the band are feeling pressured about making a decision on yet.
“They know they have a loyal fanbase who they love to entertain so it’s safe to say it’s going to be a Blue extravaganza in 2021.”
Blue made their musical debut in 2001 with the massive hit All Rise, with its album of the same name topping the UK charts and going 4x platinum. Two more No. 1 albums followed – One Love and Guilt – before the group went on hiatus in 2005.
They later returned to represent the United Kingdom at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in 11th place, and went on to release two further LPs.
