Billie Piper won’t be returning to music anytime soon.
The singer-turned-actress launched her pop career on Innocent Records, a subsidiary of Virgin Records, in 1998, when she was just 15 years old and topped the charts with her debut single, Because We Want To.
She also scored No. 1s with Girlfriend and Day & Night, among seven UK Top 5 hits, but in a new interview the star admits she owes the company a bunch of cash, estimated at £9 million.
The Honey To The Bee star is quoted by the Daily Mail newspaper’s Eden Confidential column as saying: “I’m still in debt to Virgin.
“If I ever release an album, which I won’t, I’d probably have to pay off that debt. It’s like a university debt.”
Admitting she wasn’t totally at ease with the pop star life, she added: “You do all these big promotional tours which I absolutely hated. I hated going off.”
Both of Billie’s albums – ‘Honey To The B’ (1998) and ‘Walk Of Life’ (2000) – peaked at No. 14 in the UK.
