Beyonce is back in the running for her first ever Academy Awards win with new track Be Alive.
The tune appears in the biopic ‘King Richard’, starring Will Smith as the titular father of tennis aces Venus and Serena Williams, and is in the running for the Best Original Song prize.
It’s one of six nominations, alongside Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, Best Film Editing, Best Original Song and Best Actor nomination for Will Smith.

Despite appearing on numerous soundtracks, Beyonce has been snubbed by the Academy in the past and has yet to win the prestigious award.
She was expected to earn an Oscar for her song Spirit from ‘The Lion King’ soundtrack, but the 2021 prize ultimately went to H.E.R. for Fight For You from Judas and the Black Messiah and Beyonce failed to make the shortlist.
And while her song Listen from ‘Dreamgirls’ was shortlisted back in 2007, only Henry Krieger, Anne Preven and Scott Cutler were eligible due to Academy rules.
“No more than two statuettes will normally be given in the Original Song category,” the regulations state.
“A third statuette may be awarded when there are three essentially equal contributors to a song.”
The awards buzz comes after Beyonce revealed she’s been working on new music, sharing in a recent interview: “With all the isolation and injustice over the past year, I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again.
“I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible,” she added, before confirming: “Yes, the music is coming!”
