Barbra Streisand wasn’t overly impressed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s ‘A Star is Born’ remake.
The singer/actress starred in the third big screen version of the movie opposite Kris Kristofferson, which hit cinemas in 1976.
More than 40 years later, Gaga and Bradley took over their respective roles for the latest edition of the tragic showbiz saga, but despite being a global hit it didn’t sit right with Barbra.
Speaking on ‘The Sunday Project’, the star, who recently released her latest album ‘Release Me 2’, admitted she thought the movie was “the wrong idea” as it lacked “originality”.
Despite initially praising the flick, saying “it’s a good movie, it’s gonna be a hit, she shared: “At first, when I heard it was going to be done again, it was supposed to be Will Smith and Beyonce, and I thought, ‘That’s interesting’.
“Really make it different again, different kind of music, integrated actors. I thought that was a great idea.
“So, I was surprised when I saw how alike it was to the version that I did in 1976.”
Barbra, who scooped the Best Original Song Oscar for the 1976 ‘A Star is Born’ love theme Evergreen, added: “[I] thought it was the wrong idea… can’t argue with success but I don’t care so much about success as I do originality.”
The star’s new album features outtakes from throughout her celebrated career, dating back to the 1960s through to 2020.
In a review of the LP, Retro Pop said its a “a testament to her prolific career that her castoffs – 50 years later – can come together as a standout album.”
