Barbra Streisand has taken advantage of her recent downtime to finish up work on her long-awaited debut memoir.
The music icon has been working on the book for several years and previously delayed its planned 2017 release as she insisted on writing out her life story herself.
Speaking to the BBC, the star, who will release her new vault album ‘Release Me 2’ on August 6, confirmed the publication is near to completion.
“I actually started eight years ago, writing in longhand,” explained the singer. “But I [recently] realised I have to concentrate on this, which the quarantine year helped me do. It’s almost finished now.”
Throughout her life in the spotlight, the singer has passionately supported numerous philanthropic causes and, with two new releases on the horizon, she’s keen for proceeds to go to good use.
“I have to plan on what universities are going to get my proceeds,” she reflected, “and we’re still fighting climate change.
“You know, it was 1989 when I gave my first grant to the Environmental Defence Fund.”
In addition to work via her own foundation, the Walls star has independently funded a number of causes, and credits her father’s premature death – when she was just a baby – as the spark behind her philanthropic endeavours.
“My father died at 35 and in a way I’m trying to carry on his legacy, too,” she shared. “And that’s what I love about making movies and recordings, it lives on, after you.”
