Avril Lavigne has finally addressed a conspiracy theory suggesting she died and was replaced by a body double.
The long-running urban myth claims the original singer passed away shortly after the release of her debut album, ‘Let Go’ (2003), and was replaced by a look-a-like named Melissa Vandella.
Putting the rumours to bed, she told the Call Her Daddy podcast: “It’s just funny to me, on one end everyone is like, ‘Oh my god you look the exact same, you haven’t aged a day, but then on the other hand it’s like, ‘There’s this conspiracy theory that I am not me’.
“I mean obviously I am me, it is so dumb!”
It comes ahead of a busy summer for the Canadian star, who will play Glastonbury festival amid a run of summer shows, celebrating the release of her new ‘Greatest Hits’ album.
Bringing together her biggest hits from the past two decades, the set includes 20 classics from the pop-punk star, including Complicated, Sk8er Boi, Girlfriend, What The Hell and more.
Sharing the news on social media, Avril wrote: “Can’t do a greatest hits tour without a greatest hits album!!!”
The ‘Avril Lavigne: The Greatest Hits’ tour kicks off on May 22 in Vancouver, BC at Rogers Arena, with stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Toronto, Charlotte, Nashville, Chicago and more, before wrapping up on Sept 18 in Calgary.
All Time Low and Simple Plan will join Avril on select dates throughout the tour as special guests and direct support, with Royal & the Serpent and Girlfriends joining select dates as opening acts.
