Atomic Kitten predicted “football’s coming home again” as they performed a reworked version of their classic hit Whole Again this weekend.
The group hit the top of the charts with their classic 2001 track, co-written by OMD star Andy McCluskey, along with Stuart Kershaw, Jem Godfrey and Bill Padley.
In the new version, performed by Natasha Hamilton and Liz McClarnon, the pair borrowed the football-themed lyrics conceived by England fans in support of manager Gareth Southgate.
“Looking back on when we first met / I cannot escape and I cannot forget / Southgate, you’re the one / You still turn me on / Football’s coming home again,” they sang, referencing David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and The Lightning Seeds’ Three Lions.
It became popular in 2018 when England progressed to the semi-finals of the World Cup in Russia.
The new performance took place and was uploaded on the evening of July 3, which saw England beat Ukraine 4-0 to reach the semi-finals of Euro 2020.
Natasha, who is currently working on a solo album, captioned the post: “When you and your Bessie mate of 20+ years do a gig with new words adopted by England fans!…very surreal but so much f**king fun!”
Whole Again was the final single released by Atomic Kitten to feature original member Kerry Katona – who departed for a second time in 2017 following the band’s 2012 reunion.
