Grammy-nominated soul and R&B star Angie Stone has died in a car accident at the age of 63.
The singer – known for hits such as No More Rain (In This Cloud) and Wish I Didn’t Miss You – was with nine people travelling to Atlanta, Georgia in a Sprinter van following a performance in Mobile, Alabama on Friday (February 28) when the accident occurred.
Her publicist added in a statement to CNN: “Angie Stone’s voice and spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those she touched,” a statement read.
Information on the others involved in the collision was not available at the time of writing.
The tragic accident comes weeks after Stone – who began her career in the late 1970s as a member of female rap group The Sequence, who scored a hit with Funk You Up, reflected on her career and plans for the future in a post on social media.
“I’ve been in the game for 50 years. My first solo album is 25 years old. I’ve put in a lot of work over the years,” she wrote on Instagram.
“God gave me this gift and I have shared it with the world. Even at this point I am asking my creator what is next because I have so much more to give.”
