Eric Carmen has died at the age of 74.
News of the All by Myself singer’s passing was shared by his family in a statement on the singer-songwriter’s website.
His wife Amy said: “It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen.
“Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend.
“It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy.
“Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss.”
She concluded her statement with a line from his 1977 song Love Is All That Matters: ‘Love Is All That Matters… Faithful and Forever.’
Carmen found fame as frontman of Raspberries, who released their self-titled album in 1972, featuring the hit single Go All The Way which later experienced a resurgence thanks to its appearance on the ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ soundtrack.
The band split in 1975 and Carmen embarked on a solo career, scoring hits such as All By Myself – which was later covered by Celine Dion – along with Almost Paradise from the ‘Footloose’ soundtrack and Hungry Eyes from ‘Dirty Dancing’.
