‘Magic Still Exists’ is the Swedish singer’s long-awaited fifth studio album and first since 2012 release ‘Veritas’.
Following a string of standalone tracks, the collection features three pre-release singles and builds on the strong disco influences of her recent output.
Comprising seven recordings packaged with four interludes, the LP is her shortest – but the superstar, who achieved global success with her 2008 hit Release Me, more than makes up for that with her most polished pop offering to date.
Kicking off the set, XX is an anthem for authenticity, defying you to lose yourself in the beat and live your best life on the dance floor.
The energy continues through the 35-minute listening experience, with the familiarity of singles 24 Hours, Here Comes the Night and Fingers Crossed rendering them instant highlights.
But there’s little to distinguish between lead tracks and album cuts; there’s not one song that isn’t deserving of being heard and having its own moment in the spotlight.
Closer Magic Still Exists, a piano-led ballad, is the centrepiece of the album, defining its theme and serving as a reminder that at the centre of the LP is one of Sweden’s most brilliant exports.
